The Swedish krona (SEK) is the official currency of the Kingdom of Sweden. One Swedish krona is equal to 100 öre. However, all the 50 öre coins have been discontinued as of September 30, 2010, as well as all notes of less than one krona denomination.

The existing banknote denominations are 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1 000 kronor.

The front side of the 20 krona note pictures the Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf. The 50 krona note has an image of the singer Jenny Lind and a silver harp. The 100 krona note depicts the Swedish biologist and naturalist Carl Linnaeus (Carl von Linné). On the 500 krona note there is a portrait of King Charles XI and the Swedish scientist Christopher Polhem. The 1 000 krona note has an image of King Gustav I Vasa, who ruled the country in the XVI century, and on its reverse side there is one of the illustrations for the book of the writer Olaus Magnus «History of the Northern Peoples» (the XVI century).
